The gargantuan overlord of all MMORPGs, World of Warcraft, is probably the backdrop to some of the funniest quests and events. With the majority of folks are running through the old zones without a care in the world just to hit Northrend, there are gems scattered about being left behind. While not the best loot or experience, these quests should be recognized for the sheer outrageous humor of the less than stable minds that made them. So instead of following suit with everyone else and talking about the best Deathknight talent builds, the best leveling areas, or how to get the min stats you need to start hardcore raiding I will talk about what made World of Warcraft truly fun. The quirky quests, nerdy nods to other video games or movies, and the sheer madness was what shifted ones attention away from the grind of leveling to just pure fun. 5. It’s a Secret to Everybody
This nod toward the Legend of Zelda series brought a smile to my face. Especially the photo of Link and Zelda as gnomes. While the quest took you all over Azeroth and the reward wasn’t anything to write home about, it was still enjoyable . However it is worthy of mentioning that while the final rewards are nothing special, you CAN receive both the Master Sword and Linkin’s boomerang.
4. The Last Barov
This quest is pretty typical, however the reward wasn’t. During the ol days doing this quest would have been a huge achievement due to how hard Scholomance was during the infancy of World of Warcraft. Nothing makes you blink more when someone suddenly summons 3 butlers that rush into battle with war cries such as ” More tea ? “.
3. Wrath of the Blue Dragon Flight
While it didn’t happen to everyone who did this quest, most *myself included* got a swift kick by a dragon. A kick that sent you from Winterspring all the way to the WesternPlaguelands. So yes, you just got kicked across an ocean. This particular quest adds even more humor if you happen to play a gnome…
2. Caught!
The best use of 15 silk ever in the game. Brief idea of the quest. Dwarf is stuck in an outhouse. Dwarf wants revenge. You kill some Dark Iron dwarves. Dwarf wants silk for..uhh…well….”Clean up”. (Captain Obvious says “Poo”)
1. Niby the Almighty
It’s sad this is a Warlock only quest, however it takes the show in humor. A crazed gnome sends you on several errands. However it is after finishing the final part of the quest does Niby show how mad he truly is as he summons an Infernal Death Chicken that attacks you. Here is some dialogue from the event..
Niby the Almighty: Stand back! Stand clear! The infernal will need to be given a wide berth! Niby the Almighty: BOW DOWN TO THE ALMIGHTY! BOW DOWN BEFORE MY INFERNAL DESTRO... chicken? a giant black chicken emerges. Hilarity ensues> Impsy rolls on the floor laughing. Impsy: Niby, you're an idiot. Niby the Almighty: Silence, servant! Vengeance will be mine! Death to Stormwind! Death by chicken!
An interesting fact is the name Niby comes from the warlock Biny, the first warlock to Geddon Bomb an Auction House. Don’t worry they made it to where you can’t do this anymore.(So don’t try it) So there you go, the Top 5 World of Warcraft moments that most new players will never even see. It was things like this that made me play WoW for as long as I did without really reflecting it’s as much of a grind as all the other MMORPGs I’ve played. So I just want to say thanks Blizzard for being so swell with this type of silliness.
