5 Must-Have Wii Virtual Console Games

After sitting in the warm Walmart layaway department for many hours to get my hands on a Wii (no pun intended, sexual deviants) I took it home & checked out the virtual console games available… Unfortunately, the offerings were pathetic then & for many months after.

Now, the virtual console is filled with solid games worth a download.  Have a looksy at the 5 games I feel are among the best titles available on the Wii VC (descriptions from Nintendo.com).

5.) Super Mario World

Why is it awesome?

It is the game that popularized the SNES, provided many hours of fun & was eye candy during its hayday… Oh, and it’s a game about a plumber kicking ass & taking names!

You can even ride Yoshi and swallow your enemies!

4.) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Why is it awesome?

A wonderful story filled with memorable characters & to top it all off fantastic sprite graphics!

3.) Super Mario 64

Why is it awesome?

Super Mario 64 took a game series we love and literally added a whole new dimension.  It was the perfect evolution to an already fantastic franchise that didn’t mess around with the storyline… and the graphics/sound/colors/pretty much everything rocked.

On a bright, sunny day in Mushroom Kingdom, Mario goes to visit the princess, but finds her castle eerily empty. Leaping through pictures hanging from the walls, he enters 15 magical worlds in a quest to collect the 120 Power Stars pilfered by evil Bowser and save the day. The game’s vast worlds teem with daunting obstacle courses, hidden items, puzzles and more than 30 types of enemies. Take advantage of Mario’s large selection of moves, including running, jumping, swimming, stomping, and punching, and even performing a backward somersault! Special caps give him short-lived powers, including the ability to fly. Super Mario 64 features unmatched camera control that makes adventuring in its 3-D world a snap, even for newcomers.

2.) Super Metroid

Why is it awesome?

Super Metroid is a solid 2d side scrolling sci-fi adventure with well designed free roaming levels… It has explosions.. and a girl that can turn into a metal ball. The end.

The Space Pirates, merciless agents of the evil Mother Brain, have stolen the last Metroid from a research station, and once again Mother Brain threatens the safety of the galaxy! Samus Aran must don her awesome array of high-tech weaponry to retrieve the deadly Metroid hidden deep within the cave-riddled planet Zebes. Super Metroid features excellent graphics, with a huge variety of enemies and worlds to explore. The side-view action will be familiar to many players, only now there are new weapons and items, including the Grappling Beam, which allows Samus to swing across large chasms, and the X-Ray Scope, which reveals secret passages.

1.) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Why is it awesome?

Why have “A Link to The Past” ranked 4th and Ocarina of Time ranked 1st? Well… Ocarina of Time took what makes Zelda great & made it even better in every way!  Basically, you have a world even more robust in scope than “A Link to the Past,” made it 3d & added in a tricked out horse to ride on.
